AAHS accepted to the Amazon Future Engineer sponsorship program in partnership with Project STEM for the 2022-23 school year.
Alabama Aerospace and Aviation High School (AAHS) is thrilled to announce its acceptance into the Amazon Future Engineer sponsorship program in partnership with Project STEM for the upcoming school year.
“This is huge for AAHS,” said Ruben Morris, founder and CEO of AAHS. “We believe our acceptance into this program underscores the importance and extreme relevance of our mission here at AAHS, which is giving our kids the education and training they need for successful careers in today’s rapidly changing professional landscape. The education and skills they receive at AAHS will enable them to compete and thrive for many years to come.”
Amazon Future Engineer is a comprehensive childhood-to-career program aimed at increasing access to computer science education for children and young adults from underserved and underrepresented communities.
According to the program, computing jobs are the number one source of new wages in the United States. There are 500,000 jobs currently open in every industry and every state, and they’re projected to grow at twice the rate of all other jobs.
Also according to data provided by the program, women who try AP Computer Science in high school are ten times more likely to major in CS in college. Black and Hispanic students are seven times more likely. And children who study computer science in high school are 17 percent more likely to attend college.
As part of the Amazon Future Engineer sponsorship program, AAHS will receive:
Curriculum – All student course materials, including videos and assessments, along with lesson plans, slides, and more. The curriculum includes computer science, artificial intelligence, creative media, and more.
Support – Seven-day/week curriculum Q&A with teaching assistants and a dedicated school partnership manager.
Professional Development – Online courses that explore curriculum and teaching strategies for new and experienced teachers alike.
Career Connections – Students will have the opportunity to connect in-person or virtually with an Amazon employee, or take a field trip to a nearby fulfillment center.
CSTA+ Membership – Partnering with the local CS community, AAHS will get valuable resources, discounts, and professional development opportunities.
High schools must go through a rigorous application process to participate in the Amazon Future Engineer sponsorship program in partnership with Project STEM.
