THE NEW PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL IS THE CULMINATION OF ONE MAN’S DREAM TO HELP CHILDREN ENTER THE AEROSPACE WORKFORCE.

The ongoing pilot shortage has energized the conversation about how to best fill the need for aviation professionals. Airlines are ramping up recruitment efforts, raising salaries, and even opening-up their own flight academies in the hopes of filling staffing gaps. While tapping into the existing pilot pool is important, some educational institutions are focused on cultivating a new generation of aviation professionals. The team at Alabama Aviation and Aerospace High School (AAHS) has taken on that challenge.

THE SCHOOL WILL OPEN IN THE FALL OF 2022 IN A TEMPORARY LOCATION AT THE FOUNDATION OF LIFE CHURCH IN BESSEMER.

A new charter school is headed to Central Alabama. Alabama Aerospace and Aviation High School (AAHS) received approval from the Alabama Public Charter School Commission and is moving forward with plans to open the school in the fall of 2022 in Bessemer.

TWO NEW ALABAMA CHARTER SCHOOLS ARE OPENING THIS SCHOOL YEAR ALONG WITH TWO CONVERSION SCHOOLS PREVIOUSLY RUN BY MONTGOMERY COUNTY THAT WILL REOPEN AS CHARTERS.

Public charter schools are tuition-free, privately managed public schools. Currently, Alabama has two types of public charters: Conversion charter schools are existing public schools that are converted into charters and have independent school boards, and start-up charter schools are new public schools established by a non-profit organization.
